India's remittance inflows hit a record US$135 billion in FY25
Diaspora remittances to India climbed 14% year-on-year to US$135.46 billion, with the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia driving the growth.

India's diaspora remittance inflows hit a fresh record of US$135.46 billion in FY25, up roughly 14% on the previous year, Made in India Magazine reports. It is the latest annual reading in a decade-long trend that has more than doubled inflows.
The composition has changed as much as the headline number. Where the Gulf corridor once dominated India's remittance map, advanced economies — the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia — now account for an increasingly large share. The shift mirrors where Indian migration patterns have moved: from blue-collar labour to skilled professionals, students, and the long-tail diaspora abroad.
Set against the US$135 billion figure, India retains its position as the world's largest single remittance recipient, ahead of Mexico, China and the Philippines.
For policy makers, the inflows are equivalent to roughly 3% of India's GDP, a non-trivial macroeconomic shock-absorber. For households, they remain quiet, consistent, multi-generational lifelines — paying for education, weddings, medical care, and increasingly, property and investments back home.
